Litter at Breaktime

Today our P5 and P6 Eco Committee reps, Charlotte, Emmie, Isla and Owen, did a presentation in assembly about the results of our recent litter survey.  Although there was some really good news from the survey, such as the huge drop in litter on the MUGA, one of the really disappointing findings was the amount of litter being dropped at break-times.  On the day of the survey, the Eco Committee were shocked to find that 97 items of litter were dropped in the courtyard and front playground during  break-time.

Today, we went out before break and took some photos of the playground:

Then we went out after break and took photos of the same areas:

As you can see, we still have a problem with litter being dropped in the playground at break-times.

So tomorrow we will try a new whole-school incentive.  The playground will be checked before break and then again after break.  If there are less than 20 items dropped during break-time then the whole school will get an extended break-time on Friday.  If more than 20 items have been dropped, then there will be no extended break.  We will then repeat this over the next few weeks – though the next time we check, we will not announce the day it is happening on beforehand.

We all need to play our part in keeping MOL litter-free, as sadly if the current rate of littering does not improve, we will not be able to apply for our Green Flag.

Let’s all try for a litter-free playground tomorrow – so use those bins!!
